The Japan Library Association (JLA)
The Japan Library Association (JLA), founded in 1892, was continuously promoted the development of libraries and librarianship, and its activities has been supported by countless dedicated librarians for over 100 years. JLA represents all type of libraries and related organizations in Japan and consists of 6,700 individual members and 2,800 institutional members. In 2001, JLA held its 87th All-Japan Library Conference.
Many regional library associations are affiliated with JLA and have their own various activities for libraries in local prefectures and cities.JLA has been the Japanese national association member of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) since 1929 and took a major role of holding the IFLA Tokyo Conference in 1986.Read More...
Library Association of Bangladesh
About two third province of Bengal became the Eastern part of Pakistan due to partition of Indian subcontinent into India and Pakistan in 1947. Bangladesh then called East Bengal, later East Pakistan received no share of books and other library materials from important libraries of Bengal as the division of the provincial assets. However the library movement in Bangladesh was started in 1850 with the establishment of 4 public libraries during the period of British role in India. The year 1850 is known as the milestone in the history of librarianship in Bangladesh. Since then no more significant libraries were established till 1954. As we knew that Pakistan Bibliographical Working Group (PBWG) was formed in the year 1950 under patronization of then Pakistan Government at the suggestions of UNESCO. The Group was reorganized in 1953, in its meeting which was held on 6 July 1954, constituted an ad hoc Committee to form a National Association. Thus Pakistan Library Association (PLA) came into being in July 1956. The representative of erstwhile East Pakistan (now The People’s Republic of Bangladesh ) was in the adhoc Committee. The Library Association of Singapore (LAS)
The Library Association of Singapore (LAS) is the national organization representing the interests of the library and information professionals in Singapore. Membership comprises professional librarians as well as others who are interested in library and information work. LAS provides opportunities for networking and professional development through its publications, talks, visits, conferences, training courses and social activities. LAS traces its history to 1955 when the Malayan Library Group was formed. On 25 March 1972, coincidentally the founder day of the Association, the Association formally adopted the Library Association of Singapore (LAS) as its official registered name, which has since been known locally and abroad.Read More...
